JAMAICA HOUSE @ o2 ARENA

Blue Lotus were asked to put some real live UK Reggae into the official Jamaican government Olympic and Jamaica50 celebrations at Jamaica House at the o2 Arena. This saw us programme the Rasites who rocked the venue for 3 nights..

The bass was so loud that we can't show you good quality footage (audio) of the Rasites performances, but here is a clip of the audience's reaction to the live screening of the 200m Olympic final which took place straight after the Rasites performance. The party continued long and hard into the night!

BASS CULTURE - THE INFLUENCE OF REGGAE ON BRITISH MUSIC

A series of international showcases, events and promotions highlighting the profound influence of Reggae on the UK music scene.

BASS CULTURE @ SXSW, AUSTIN, TEXAS

Working with British Underground, Blue Lotus took the Bass Culture show to the worlds biggest stage, SXSW! we had an amazing time, the artists rocked it, the crowd danced the night away, and the music industry heads inside couldn't start writing their glowing reports quick enough!

Our showcase and delegation included - The Rasites, Natty, Little Roy, Lady Leshurr, Mykaell Riley, Mikey Dred, Ras Kwame, Jnr Tubby and Robbo Ranx!

See below for some of the amazing press the show received;

THE TIMES
One of the top 5 shows of SxSW alongside Alabama Shakes, Bruce
Springsteen, Rage Against the Machine and Jack White:

“Bass Culture at the Driskill Hotel - The bar of the Driskill is the
place where all the heavyweight deals go down, and this showcase for
British reggae and the culture surrounding it was a small event that
people went away from talking about. The highlight of the evening was
a set by the Birmingham rapper Lady Leshurr that somehow got
hardened, middle-aged record industry execs jumping up and down with
their hands in the air.”

HUW STEPHENS, BBC RADIO 1, CTRL/TOPMAN
“Real reggae had its own showcase at SXSW 2012. British Underground
excel at shining a spotlight on genres and scenes, and with the
delectable Ras Kwame hosting, brought London's Natty, Lady Leshurr,
Little Roy and the Rasites together to show a bit of the current crop,
a bit of the history, the roots of it all, and some of where it's
going. What I saw of Natty was great, his confident, striking song
writing complemented with a quality, tight band. Lady Leshurr's set
was one of the best things I've seen all week; her super-fast,
charming and full of character rapping brought up a level by the
band. She had the time of her life, a room full of new converts
loving it also.”

ESQUIRE
“Possibly Life-Changing Musical Discoveries from SXSW 2012 - A
diminutive rapper with a supersonic flow, Lady Leshurr made her
American debut by turning a room in the swank Driskill Hotel into a
raucous reggae dancehall. She commanded her band to create a new song
on the spot, covered Chris Brown's "Look At Me Now,” and arguably
bested Busta Rhymes's original rap — further evidence that women
rappers with skills are defining hip-hop's next era.”

Here's a little clip of what happened in Texas!

Bass Culture will be hitting the road again soon...so watch this space!

BASS CULTURE PANEL DISCUSSION
